Our Journey and Editorial Standards
We founded NordicCairn after growing tired of online hiking blogs filled with copied travel blurbs and unverified gear recommendations. Too many guides recommended trails without ever stepping foot on the mud, or recommended flimsy poles made of brittle alloys that bend under real pressure.
We decided to build an independent journal right here in Belfast. We personally walk each trail from Cavehill to the Lagan Valley towpath, recording elevation gains and path surfaces. When we evaluate walking equipment, we examine the real materials, from 7075 aerospace aluminium shafts to Portuguese cork grips and tungsten carbide tips.
Our editorial stance remains independent. We accept no paid placements from gear makers, and our printed route guides are produced locally. We believe in clear, truthful information that helps walkers of all ages explore the outdoors with confidence.
